It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? #82

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey meant to highlight books you read in the past week, and what you’re planning on reading this week.

This last week, I played in our library staff concert. It went pretty well, but my throat was super dry, so I wasn’t able to play as well as I normally do. I thought it was just the weather, but the next morning my throat was really sore. As the day progressed, it turned into the full-fledged flu, complete with fever, chills, body aches, etc.

I’m still fighting it off, despite sleeping most of the weekend, and I really need to get better pronto because I fly out to ALA Midwinter on Thursday night! Speaking of which, who is going?

I also find it funny that I’ve been reading Spillover all week, which is about diseases that jump from animals to humans, and then I get the flu. Way to illustrate the book, body!

Finished:
Interview with the Vampire: Claudia’s Story by Anne Rice and Ashley Marie Witter
What We Saw At Night by Jacquelyn Mitchard
Revenge by Yoko Ogawa

Continuing to read:
The Archived by Victoria Schwab
The Uninvited by Liz Jensen
Room by Emma Donoghue (audiobook)

Hoping to finish:
Spillover: Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic by David Quammen — loving this book, but it’s a beast. It’s very slow going and long, densely packed with information.
Dr. Frankenstein’s Daughters by Suzanne Weyn
Hysteria by Megan Miranda

  3. Bleh, I just got over the flu myself! I slept for about four days and took Tamiflu, and that seemed to help. I hope you feel better soon. :(

Dr. Frankenstein’s Daughters sounds interesting!! And I have been wanting to check out the Anne Rice book.

    • Audrey Audrey says:

The Anne Rice graphic novel was a pretty quick read, and stuck to the story closely, although it’s from Claudia’s point of view. I just love Interview with the Vampire a ton, so I was happy to read it anyway.

  4. Mystica says:

The Yoko Ogawa book is a new one for me. Will be looking out for your review on that one.

  5. Pussreboots says:

I’d love to go to ALA some day but as a part-time cataloger, I can’t afford to this year.

I plan to make 2013 my year of reading from my own bookshelves. Please come see what I’m currently reading.

    • Audrey Audrey says:

I hope you’re able to make it sometime. I have to go because of committee work, but my library won’t fund both conferences completely, so I’ll end up paying for a bit of Annual.

  6. Shan says:

I hope you’re feeling better for your trip, the flu this year is a doozy! Spillover looks so interesting, but the size of that kind of book tends to put me off.

    • Audrey Audrey says:

Yeah, Spillover is kind of epic. I’m amazed at how long it is taking me to read it, because I’m a fast reader. I think it’s worth it, though.

  7. I am fighting off the flu too. Hope you feel better soon!! and have a great trip!!

  8. Kristin T. says:

I read Room and thought it was a good but intense book. How is the audio version?

Hope you are feeling better soon – I was sick all last week with a stomach bug.

    • Audrey Audrey says:

The audiobook is good. Jack’s voice can be a little annoying sometimes, but he definitely sounds like a kid, and Ma sounds like a mother. I’d say it’s good voice casting. It’s really gotten into my head, too. I was dreaming about it last night.

Sorry to hear you were sick too! Seems like everybody’s getting something this year. This is twice I’ve been sick in two months, and it doesn’t seem fair.
