Waiting on Wednesday: The Diviners

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine. It highlights pre-release books that we just can’t wait to get our hands on.

The Diviners by Libba Bray
Release date: September 18, 2012
Published by: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

I love Libba Bray. I also love reading about the history of the occult (I actually work with rare books about occult subjects, so I’m not just some occult-lovin’ weirdo :-D )  It looks like this book combines both of those loves! Therefore, I must have it.

Blurb (from Goodreads):

Evie O’Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City–and she is pos-i-toot-ly thrilled. New York is the city of speakeasies, shopping, and movie palaces! Soon enough, Evie is running with glamorous Ziegfield girls and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is Evie has to live with her Uncle Will, curator of The Museum of American Folklore, Superstition, and the Occult–also known as “The Museum of the Creepy Crawlies.”
When a rash of occult-based murders comes to light, Evie and her uncle are right in the thick of the investigation. And through it all, Evie has a secret: a mysterious power that could help catch the killer–if he doesn’t catch her first.

  1. Oooooh. I totally want this. It sounds awesome. I’ve had an uneven experience with Bray, but I am remaining optimistic. Looks like they’ll have some of these at ALA; I feel a fit of the greedies coming on!

  2. Not ALA. I meant BEA. It’s past my bedtime. Sigh. They’ll probably be at ALA for all I know, but I saw that listed as an event in BEA.

I can’t remember, will you be at BEA? If so, I’d love to say hi! It looks like I’ll probably only be there for part of the Tuesday unless I can find a place to crash on Tuesday night.

For some reasons I can’t help but stare at the cover and wonder what it wants to tell me. Like.. I really STARE. XD
